A creative thrown together with my talented makeup artist: Kylie Smith and Boudy Muse: Jade Michael
This shoot is a fab example of how you need to roll with it when shit goes sideways. For this particular day, we were supposed to do a summery shoot featuring bright colors, poppy prints, and a vintage flair. However, everything that was planned went in another direction: the sky was less than stellar due to the smoke from the wildfires, Kylie accidentally brought her wrong color kit, and Jade was feeling less than zippy for the shoot. So, we took what we had and ran with it. I grabbed a pair of culottes that I had wanted to shoot in Vegas this year, paired it with a with a basic white crop top and then went for an incredibly minimalist, moody af vibe. Then, I had this sweater that I had bought for camp that I didn't end up shooting, so we tossed it on Jade for some beautiful portraits in the late evening sun as it filtered into my studio. Sometimes, things don't go as planned....we could have fought everything and ended up creating work that wasn't meant to be created that day, OR we could go with the flow and quickly change direction of the shoot and make something epic. In fact, I am so in love with these shots because of their simplistic, editorial feel that it was nice to do something different. Also, working with Kylie & Jade I am NEVER disappointed in what we create together.
Howdy {Las Vegas Diaries} ~ Winnipeg Boudoir Photographer
As I started planning my shoots for Vegas next year, I was reminded that I never ended up blogging my shoots from Vegas THIS year and that had to be fixed immediately! I brought Nicole to Mexico with me for some workshop fun and photoshoots! Well, we ended up doing a few shoots, but the main one for me was when we drove out to the dry lake bed at dusk and did this shoot in like 20 minutes. I was inspired by the harness set from Little Black Diamond and scoured the internet looking for a denim bikini (which apparently is in fashion now....)! I had found some thrifted western shirts and cowboy boots and we kicked up some dust! I hope you enjoy scrolling through this editorial session that we had so much fun creating![audio mp3="https://www.terihoffordphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Rollin-In-The-Dirt.mp3"][/audio]
A Damsel In Distress - Winnipeg Editorial Sessions
Miss Cella came to SLAAAAY her shoot. We decided on a mod-styled/60s-esque/dame styled shoot that brought life to her character, Polly! I love editorials because they allow babes to explore these inner personas that are itching to come to the surface. Cella's session was strictly shot portrait style and we made use of the fact that she "gives good face" and isn't afraid to look silly. If you come in for an editorial session, please know that not all your images are going to be "perfectly beautiful" (whatever the fuck that means) because we want to play up a character, which can feel silly....but also freeing. If you aren't prepared to bring some attitude, editorials may NOT be for you. Take a look below and see how Cella describes her inner "Polly":"Miss Polly is daring and darling, wanting nothing more than to escape her small town and make it on the 1950s big screen as a classic horror movie damsel-in-distress. 1950s schoolgirl meets wannabe Hollywood superstar meets ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ dame meets a young girl with a dream that needs life to be bigger than she ever will be."
They Let Girls Into Cubscouts Now - Winnipeg Photographer
Last week I had the pleasure of heading to Camp Do More in Ontario, just 2 hours outside of Toronto. This would be four days full of meeting with like minded boudy photogs, shooting, modelling, getting eaten by mosquitoes, and educating others on how my silly brain works to help empower women through photography. Because I was a little late in making my presentations, I didn't even have time to think about what I was going to shoot so I was little sad, but thought the break might be nice so I could focus on just teaching and meeting some fab humans. Well, fast forward to the few days I spent in Toronto pre-camp with my buddy Taylor (the one on the left above) and we visited this sweet ass vintage shop. After perusing a few racks Taylor held up this old child's size Cub Scout shirt and my brain took it and ran. We then sussed out an additional outfit for her friend Edith (one of the other models at camp...the one on the right above). We found vintage socks, vests, berets, scarves, etc. to make this naughty Cub Scout shoot come to life. After being inspired by all the other speakers at the Camp, I wanted to take something that Boon Ong (whom I did the workshop in Calgary with) does. His blog posts are treated as a full experience and he finds a song that fits for each one and as the music plays, while scrolling through the posts you get immersed in it. It becomes like a still movie...I think I may do this for all my babes going forward. It truly adds to the experience of the images. Anywho, feel free to "watch" our little story unfold below and if you are a photographer interested in coming to Camp Do More next year, we are half sold out on tickets, but you can get yours here!! (And don't forget to sign up for my classes mwahaha).[audio mp3="https://www.terihoffordphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Silk.mp3"][/audio]
Bringing Back the 80s {Portland Diaries Pt 1: Ella Unsual} ~ International Boudoir Photographer
So, my Portland trip seems like it was forever ago, but it was only in January! I went down to Portland with my bestie to explore and to meet up with some other photographers and models and create some magic! When Beth Olsen, you will see her a few times later on, from Alchemy Portraits suggested renting the "Deco Dreams" house on Airbnb I didn't even hesitate! It was like the 70s and 80s threw up all over in there. So I knew I had to find the perfect outfits for this aesthetic. I mean...if you are gonna go over the top, GO OVER THE TOP, mmmiright? So Miss Ella Unusual, Kristin, and Lauren came to model for us in this epic Airbnb. Prepare yourself for the colors, the vibrancy, the patterns, and the urge to examine EVERYTHING in the photos! If you get a chance to go to Portland, I highly recommend staying at this airbnb....plus the owner is super chill and he has a cute little doggo. First up, is miss Ella in all her glory! : Gab
